Quran Lab is a non-profit research lab, run as a waqf. The models are the product: public, free, and never sold. The work is done as sadaqah.
How it was built
In the order it happened.
- 59,000+ hours collectedA corpus from thousands of reciters, cleaned, segmented and checked automatically. Models train on selections from it.
- Our own forced alignerA Quranic phonetic lexicon derived letter by letter from tajweed rules, so long recitations align phoneme by phoneme.
- Help arrived, in many formsA brother gave 8 GPUs and training ran twice as fast. SAWT v4 was trained on donated H100s. Experts reviewed 208 tajweed rulings, and volunteers test and build with us. May Allah reward them on behalf of the Quran and its people.
- Anyone can give a recitationcontribute.quranlab.ai collects and checks recitations from the community, in the browser.
- Zipformer Quran 3.1Phoneme-level recognition, streaming on a phone with no internet.
- SAWT v448 kHz restoration of archive recitations.
- Next: TajweedFormerThe next recognition model. It was going to be v4 of Zipformer Quran; it has its own name because the architecture is new.
